Women Capacity Building.

Women Capacity Building

Ecocent in 2022, successfully mobilised and formalised more than 250 women in e-waste and scrap trade at Suame Magazine, Kumasi, Ghana-West Africa. This is the first project that recognises the contribution of women on a waste value chain in Ghana. The association was named, Ladies in E-Waste and Scrap Association (LEWSA). After the formalisation, LEWSA was incorporated into the mother association, known as Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organisation (SMIDO).

Currently, similar project is ongoing, to mobilize and formalized the trade of all female mobile scrap and e-waste collectors on the value chain in Kumasi. Unlike LEWSA group, these women have no scrap shop on the yard.  They are hawkers of scraps, suppling (raw materials) to fabricator in and around Suame Magazine enclave.
